Yamaha PM10 Training Seminar

Yamaha’s manager of pro audio application engineering, Andy Cooper presented a comprehensive training session for their new flagship Rivage PM10 digital mixing console. Training session was held in YDACC in Guangzhou (Yamaha Digital Audio Creative Center). Upon arrival, Tom Lee Engineering team were warmly greeted by Chen Hao, manager of PA marketing department.

Followed by the success of renowned Yamaha PM1D and PM5D, 10 years later RIVAGE PM10 came out to help redefine the digital console market once again. User-centered design Yamaha RIVAGE PM10 is built for live sound applications, broadcast, and large installations. Modular system consisting of three units (control surface, DSP engine, and I/O rack) allow flexible configurations according to the users needs. For example, a control surface can pair up with two DSP engines for redundancy or similarly a single DSP engine can pair up with two control surfaces for expansion. Each piece of equipment also features dual power supply for redundancy.

Yamaha developed the TWINLANe protocol that supports up to 400 channels at either 48 or 96k plus control data over distances of up to 300 meters. It uses Neutrik OpticalCON Duo cable to form a fiber-optic, redundancy ring. Additionally, with the optional HY series Dante card it can communicate with other Dante network enabled devices for simple system integration.

RIVAGE PM10 also features a refined hybrid preamp design, the analog preamp surrounds Yamaha’s natural sound concept and digital gain stage of Rupert Neve Designs circuitry. Silk Red and Blue modes give sound engineers the flexibility to quickly alter the color of the sound in a non-invasive way similar to switching microphones. When Silk processing is switched off, the analog gain retains a natural, transparent sound.

After a hands-on experience with the PM10 after the seminar , our sound engineers were impressed with the processing power and user friendliness of the PM10. Andy was very helpful in answering our questions and showed us the endless possibilities that can be accomplished with this new next gen digital console.
