CHINA: Tom Lee Engineering has completed two recent installations in Hong Kong, with Vue line array systems forming the backbone of both projects.

At the Aberdeen Sports Ground in Hong Kong, more than 2,000 people recently participated in a 30-hour long famine in order to experience the feelings of people facing hunger and food shortages across the world. Tasked with providing audio services for the event, the Tom Lee team deployed a combined Vue al-4 subcompact and al-8 line array system flown at either side of the stage, with h-class subwoofers ground stacked below. A Yamaha CL5 console was used at FOH.

Fresh from the success in Aberdeen, the team went straight back to work for the next project, providing audio and lighting equipment for the Asian Racing Conference at Sha Tin Racecourse. The event, which was organised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, invited around 800 representatives from more than 30 countries to attend a four-day series of seminars, business meetings and events with the goal of developing the Asian horse racing industry to the international level.

As with the previous project, Tom Lee used a combination of al-4 and al-8 line array elements, with two main flown hangs comprised of eight al-8 and three al-4 cabinets. HS-25 subwoofers were also used to reinforce the low-end. With the help of computer software the speakers were then angled and focused to provide even coverage.

An additional set of Peecker Sound upturned T-series loudspeakers were placed at the rear of the venue to fill in the remaining gaps in coverage. Peecker Sound PSUT8AE and PSUT8TE were selected for this application due to their 140-degree horizontal dispersion characteristics. Completing the audio system was a Yamaha CL5 performing mixing duties.

The team also provided a small selection of lighting equipment for the event, consisting of Martin Viper Profile and Wash luminaries, installed at various locations throughout the room.
